One Big Goal In Mind

Oh fall is here. There was what appeared to be FROST on my lawn this morning. That depresses me but excites me at the same time. It's a weird feeling really.

So today I'm here to propose a bit of an idea I've had going on. Not so much "propose" it, but I feel like if I write it down then I am far more likely to make this a reality.

I've been thinking a lot about the things that I want to do in roughly a year from now.

All of it will involve an incredible amount of organizing, hard work, time, and money. But I am sure that all of it will pay off in the end.

The big thing that I've been thinking a lot about is doing a fundraiser for cancer research. No I do not mean joining someone else's fundraising event, I mean creating my own. It sounds like a crazy idea I'm sure but I think my idea has potential to be successful, and the potential to become an annual event.

I figure I will call the event "Haircuts For Cancer" ... unless I can think of something a little more witty or clever. That will be a process in itself.

Everything would be dependent on the amount of volunteers because I would need quite a few skilled hairstylists (I would be hoping for at least 10-20) that would be willing to dedicate an entire weekend (12 hours Saturday and 12 hours Sunday) to supporting a good cause... and for free.

My ultimate goal would be to raise $10,000.00 for the weekend. It's not much but it is probably more than enough for a first time event. Especially seeing as how I've never done something like this before. But as things get put into motion then that figure may grow.

I would like to get set up in a park or on a busy sidewalk (maybe even the art center downtown where they do all those crazy protests??) Have a booth set up for where people can make their donations, and have stations set up where the hairstylists could do their thing.

This will NOT involve shaving everyone's head. This will actually just involve giving you a haircut that YOU want that you would regularly pay a salon to do but instead everything you pay for this haircut would go towards supporting cancer research. If we have people who want to cut off long lengths of hair to donate for wigs, all the better! I would be sure to have that option there for those who wanted to utilize it.

The only thing I am debating now is whether or not I should have a minimum donation or not. Due to the fact that there would only be the weekend to do this I don't want to have some hoser 15 year old kid come up and donate 50 cents and get a haircut that takes 20 minutes. So I think I might set a price that's say 10 bucks for men and 15-20 for women so that it at least makes it worth while for everyone.

On top of doing the haircuts on the street I was thinking of how I could get salons involved. It is unrealistic to think that you can have everyone cutting hair outside on the street, but if I could somehow get even a few salons involved where even 5-10% of every haircut/colour/perm done on that weekend gets donated to the cause it would help make it more successful.

It won't be easy to get this going but I think I'm going to aim for late spring or early summer of 2011 that way it would give me one year after I graduate my hair program to get the ball rolling. First things first I will need to decide on the cause I want to fundraise for. It's hard to pick one when all are so important, but due to the fact that a very dear friend of mine may one day lose his battle with brain cancer at such a young age I will likely fundraise for that.

For now I will get started on researching organizations and finding information on how I can make this all possible.

It is an unbelievably huge goal but it would be great to do something worth while. For about 3 maybe even 4 years I've had the "I would like to..." in my head, but now I can actually see it coming to life with an idea in mind, a number in mind, and even a rough date in mind.

It's The Best Thing That You've Ever Had

It's time for a 2 month update since we're nearly there.

There are some major changes coming about and overall I feel very good about things. I have finally picked up my wedding dress from the store. That was an interesting adventure in itself. First off, when you're picking up your dress they like to bring it out, hang it from a hook while they do all the paperwork, giving other women in the store a chance to ooh and ahh over it and only after all that do they finally put it in a black bag.

I can't express how awkward it is to stand in a wedding dress store when you aren't getting married, let alone after your wedding has been cancelled. The woman that sold me the dress came out to ask me if I needed help but I was already being helped. She didn't recognize me at all thankfully. I just couldn't deal with that situation comfortably that's for sure.

After getting all the information on my dress, they bagged it up for me and I walked out of the store with a dress that weighs 10lbs or more and a sigh of relief that the worst was over. Or so I thought.

Of course though leave it to my luck that this would be the day I would run into someone I know. I never run into people I know here, but of course the one fucking time I have to run into someone, it happens to be when I'm carting a frickin wedding dress down the street. Awesome. It was Chad's friend Demis.

Demis was with this other girl he was going to school with and she of course says to me "OH MY GOOOODD IS THAT A WEDDING DRESS?!!?!" ...

I didn't even know what to say so I just shook my head in awkwardness and was like "uhhmm, no... well... yes... but uh... yeah, just no."

Finally Demis piped up and was like "they broke up." I actually appreciated that he had said that because it meant that I didn't have to try to explain much else. Of course though seeing as how I haven't seen Demis since before Dario and I were engaged there were still many things to discuss so I gave a quick explanation of what happened and then went on to discuss other things.

Thankfully though the situation ended quickly and I hurried back to my car and started to drive home.

On my drive home I remembered that I had a scrapbooking punch in my purse that I was SUPPOSED to give Danielle at my birthday to give back to Dario's mom... but I forgot all about it so I decided I would just go drop it off.

I debated what the right thing to do was. I wasn't sure if I should just slip it in the mail box and leave, or if I should actually just knock on the door and give it to her. I decided that I might as well just give it to her. She invited me in and we ended up talking for a couple of hours. It was strange sitting in the kitchen at the table I've so many times sat at with them and knowing that it was different now. All the while though it was really nice to talk with her about everything. She's been very worried about me so I hope that after having talked to me she will be able to feel a little better about how I'm doing.

I didn't realize how long we'd been talking for until we heard a noise in the basement and realized Dario's dad was home. I was actually worried about that because Dario mentioned to me that his dad was really uncomfortable about everything and said he wouldn't want to run into me again. But surprisingly enough his dad smiled and asked how I was doing. We talked for a little bit, didn't have much left to say really, and then I left.

Saturday I worked at the shop for 8 hours and it felt great to be there. I missed everyone more than I realized, but I also missed the work. I felt awesome when I got home. I was tired but it was a good tired. My muscles were sore because I haven't done any heavy lifting like that in about 6 months, but thankfully I didn't have any cramping or lower back pain which was a huge relief. My boss and I talked and we agreed that I would like to come back to work but there is no point quitting my job at the office until we know for sure if there will be full time work available for me there. They are incredibly busy right now but these jobs are expected to be finished mid October and they have nothing after that. They've got lots of bids going on so if they get a few of those then I will be able to go back full time. In the meantime I will be working overtime for them on Saturdays (and maybe Sundays if they need me) until school starts. The extra cash will be nice.

On Saturday night I went to mass. I went two weekends before that as well. I missed my birthday weekend as I had company etc but I will continue to go when possible. Even though I am not catholic or any other religion for that matter, I have always enjoyed listening to Father Mark's masses. The first time I went back by myself was a pretty big deal for me. I was in a place I didn't really belong, yet I felt so comfortable there. On Saturday when I went again I felt the same thing. I just feel at peace when I'm in a church, it's a very nice feeling for me and I'm realizing that it's something I like to do. I've chosen to stay going to Dario's church because I like the priest and it feels right to me.

On Sunday I spent my day cooking and baking and playing guitar.

The person I am finding through this all has taken me by surprise. Not only am I discovering a new me, but I'm re-discovering parts of the old me. My old friends are still there and I'm rebuilding those relationships and I'm working on new relationships. It's just been awesome all around. This month could not have been better.

They Say Beauty Is In The Eye Of The Beholder

Of all the things I could be feeling lately I'm finding myself feeling insecure.

It's strange really.

Normally my self esteem is fine. I feel great about who I am and what I look like most of the time. However, now that I'm single I've become strikingly aware of my flaws.

I am surrounded by beautiful women. I think all of the girls I am friends with are absolutely stunning so sometimes it makes it very easy to compare myself and feel a lot less attractive than them.

I am not your typical generic pretty faced girl. I've found that often times it's not my looks that attracts someone, it ends up somehow being my personality... which is odd since I'm not the most soft spoken person out there, nor am I gracious in any way.

I like to think that in terms of a personality, I have a character at least. It may not always be perfect, but I do try to work on my flaws when I see them or when they are pointed out. I interrupt people far too often, I speak when I shouldn't for longer than is appropriate, I don't have a very good verbal filter... but these are all things that with a little conscious effort (okay maybe a lot) can be improved.

But for the sake of first impressions, when you're judged before you can even show a bit of your personality, I am finding myself feeling a little insecure in that department.

Every person has something they don't like about themselves. Most of the things I don't like about myself are things that can be worked around so they're not as noticeable or even so that I can like them. But some, are not.

I used to have giant teeth and thankfully I grew into them for the most part. I still have gaps in my teeth that I am very aware of, but as long as you see the right side of my teeth or straight on then I am happy with them. They are straight for the most part, it's just the gaps that bug me. When I was younger I was constantly made fun of for my teeth. My dentist once told me I had beautiful teeth and I knew he was full of shit. They weren't beautiful when he told me that, they were over-sized, had gaps everywhere, and my front top teeth practically hung out outside my lips. But again, they straightened out as I got older and now the only thing I'm really conscious about is the gap on my left side. I do have really white teeth though so I'm at least happy with that.

My eyes don't have a distinctive colour. In fact - no one has ever guessed my eye colour correctly, even while staring directly into them. I have green eyes, but for some reason everyone says they are blue. They have specks of blue in them but from far away they just look like a combination of blue, green, and grey. But with the right make-up I can manage to make them at least look pretty even though you still can't tell what colour they are. I kind of like that they're not a distinctive colour but sometimes I just want to scream "THEY'RE GREEN FOR FUCK SAKES!!"

My skin isn't perfect. I fall asleep with my make-up on far too often and I am paler than pale. Not a nice pale either, a blotchy pale. But again, make-up can correct the majority of my skin problems.

My eyebrows are much too thin so I have to colour them in. If I don't it looks like I'm sick or something. I'm not just saying that either -- anytime I haven't coloured in my eyebrows everyone always asks if I'm "feeling okay."

My chin is a little larger than I like. I often refer to it as having a Jay Leno on my face. But again with the right angle towards the camera it's a lot less noticeable.

However, the one thing that I cannot stand about myself is my nose. Sadly, there is no way around it either. I've tried turning different ways but if I get certain shadows my nose starts to resemble that of one of the seven dwarfs. In other lights it just looks giant. My profile is off kilt because my nose sticks too far off of my face. So really, that is my one thing that I really don't like about myself.

I don't think I'm some horrible ugly goblin or something, but I often poke my nose in the mirror or cover some of it up with my fingers and think to myself "I wonder if it would look better smaller..."

But, I'm stuck with it because I'm just far too uncomfortable with plastic surgery and this is the way I was born and outside of my hair colour I don't see a need to change what I was born with. Should I ever get married then they will just have to get used to my nose getting in the way of everything.

At the end of the day though now that this "single" life lingers it makes me very uncomfortable knowing that I'm not and never will be one of those generic pretty girls. Part of me likes that I'm not, but part of me wishes I was. Ultimately I'm quite happy with my face and body... my only true complaint is my nose... but for some reason I've just been feeling that sense of insecurity.

I don't know what it is. It could just be the fear of rejection when I do start trying to meet people, or it could just be that I'm starting to notice the quiet in my house on the evenings I am all alone.

I just feel like those little flaws that I see are a lot more noticeable for some reason now, when really they aren't any more noticeable now than they were when I was dating.

In retrospect it's a completely irrational thing but none the less I'm feeling this way.

Hopefully it won't take long to rid this feeling so I can start feeling like myself again.

Decisions Decisions

Naturally I am an indecisive person. Because of that I have a very difficult time putting my focus on one particular thing. Sometimes those things are really stupid things, like trying to decide what I want off the menu when I go out. I usually really want two things and there's been many times where I will just order half sizes of both because I can't make up my mind. Or I will make everyone else order before me so that I feel pressured to make a decision faster and then blurt something out and hope it's what I actually want.

However, sometimes the things I am indecisive about happen to be very important decisions. Decisions that require a lot of humming and hawing. I think a lot about things before I finally make a choice but then sometimes I make really sudden decisions that I should have thought about but didn't.

It makes things really complicated sometimes. I'm famous for weighing out the pros and cons.

Obviously there have been some MAJOR changes in the last few months. Life altering changes that make you kind of stand back and say, "Holy shit I've done all of that in the last 4 months?"

Sadly I feel like I'm doing it again.

Today, due to the fact that I can't go into work as I'm starting to get a cold, I decided I was going to go pick up my wedding dress so I can try to sell it. I got about 3/4's of the way there, which coincidentally is about half way to the shop I used to work at. For the last couple of months one of the guys has been hounding me to come and visit, and unfortunately due to the hours I work at my new job I haven't been able to.

I decided at the last minute that I would call the shop, see if the guys wanted to go get a beer and head out there. Simon couldn't because he had a hockey game with his daughter tonight, but my two bosses said they'd love to so I bailed on the wedding dress and drove out to Delta. I stopped in at the shop to say hi to everyone and see what they were working on and as usual everyone asked me when I was coming back. They've all been wanting me to come back and have asked me many times now, and each time I respond with "I don't know, I might not be coming back."

Today I walked in there to find that they are working on some stuff for the new Port Mann Bridge. It was the strangest feeling but I instantly became overwhelmed with jealousy and felt like I was missing out. Jealousy because it's a cool fucking project to work on and be a part of. Not too many people can stand back and say "yeah I helped build that bridge you drive over every day that's going to be there for the next 100+ years."

It's true. I miss the shop very much. I miss the guys there, I miss the work, I miss feeling that sense of accomplishment at the end of every day. I miss learning things and challenging myself. I miss the atmosphere, the jokes. I just miss everything about it.

Lately I've definitely noticed a drop in my motivation. I don't like being in limbo and I really hate doing things that aren't challenging. Lets face it, office work is not challenging. At least not this particular job. I sit at a desk, screw around on the internet here and there, code files and put stuff away, and occasionally do other odd jobs as well. Never anything that involves thinking though.

I feel like I'm getting more and more stupid with every passing minute.

I was asked over and over again today, "When are you coming back?" ... even my bosses asked me if I could come back.

For now I've offered to help out on weekends if they need me to because this is obviously something I really have to think about.

So I'm going to make a list of pros and cons for each job.

Pros for the shop:

- The pay is MUCH higher (about 7 bucks an hour more) therefor deleting debt faster
- Full benefits
- I love the work
- It's a good crew to work with
- I fit in there and am very comfortable with the atmosphere
- I learn something new every day
- I am good at it
- I'm halfway through an apprenticeship and am CWB certified for welding
- I would get home earlier
- It's challenging
- It gives me tools that I can use for the rest of my life, for things like renovations around the house etc
- It's a trade and trade's are always good to have
- Gives me plenty of exercise throughout the day
- Doesn't involve spending far too much of my time on a stupid computer
- Major sense of accomplishment at the end of every day. You can SEE what you've done
- It's flexible, holidays are never an issue unless we're incredibly busy

Cons of the shop:

- It's a longer commute
- It's hard on the body (particularly the back)
- Consequently getting home earlier means getting up earlier (4:45am)
- Dirty nails and a dirty face are a daily occurrence
- Can be dangerous + involves toxins (though wearing a respirator can prevent a lot of that)
- Burns on the hands, arms, neck, chest, stomach, legs, etc etc. Basically everywhere on the body (Most can be prevented but some small burns will happen on a regular basis)
- Dependent on the rise and fall of the economy

Pros of the office:

- Full benefits
- Easy work, not hard on the body
- Safer
- I work with nice people although I don't really know any of them too well
- There is potential to be promoted
- 8 hour days with 1 hour lunches
- Close to home
- Later mornings so I can sleep in a bit
- Relatively flexible
- Consistent work no matter what the economy is like

Cons of the office:

- Those promotions can take years, which I won't be there for
- Doesn't pay nearly as much as I need/would like
- It's boring
- Mindless work that benefits me in no possible way
- Not much physical work so I'm getting fat and lazy
- Involves more time on the computer than I like
- I have to put makeup on daily and look decent/presentable, consequently I spend more money on clothes
- I don't get home until 5
- Can't be 100% myself
- There is no sense of accomplishment at the end of my day

Sigh... I don't know. The cons to the shop job are obviously bad ones compared to everything else, but at the same time it feels like the pro's outweigh it all.

Bottom line is I'd be making much more money which = less stress. Things with my body have been going significantly well since the surgery, and as long as I see a chiropractor (which I really should be doing right now regardless of what job I'm doing) then I shouldn't have anymore issues.

I don't know. In the mean time they need help on weekends so if they work some Saturday's I'll go in and help fab some shit up and help with the welding. It's been so long since I've done all of that stuff. I guess I'll take some time to think about it for now.

Either job isn't going to be a permanent position and come April I'll be graduating and ready to start an actual career... so the thought that keeps plaguing me is "both jobs have downsides, you'll have to suck it up and push through either job, but one pays you more and has a lot more to offer."

22 on the 22nd - Bring On The Champagne

I'm actually posting this on the 23rd now since I uploaded these pictures last night, so I will say that YESTERDAY was my birthday. I am officially 22 and climbing.

It was quite the birthday and if I think back to all of my other birthdays, this one was the best.

My mom and Wendy came to visit for the weekend, a ton of people came out on Saturday, I shopped my friggen ass off, got drunker than I've been in awhile and was left with a raspy man sounding voice. I originally thought it was just whiskey voice, or in my case "vodka voice" but unfortunately it's turned into a cold. Therefor I am not allowed to go into work today so it's 8:40am and I'm back in my PJ's writing a blog post. Yes I actually mean I am not ALLOWED to go to work today. We have a new company policy where if you feel you are even remotely sick you aren't allowed to come to work incase you infect everyone else. Yes it does have to do with the whole H1N1 scare.

Anyways, there's a ton of pictures so I will just explain via picture method.

Pre-puking face.

Pat getting dirty with my mom. Pat you're such a skank.

Mason and Rat came to visit from the Island!

Alicia was scared of what was happening on UFC.

This was the beginning to a sleep-less night. Thank's vodka and redbull for allowing me only 1 hour of sleep and a gnarly friggen hangover.

Pat seems to consistently get stuff on his face, only this time I swear it was by accident. I was sharing my shot with him!

Do I have something in my teeth??

Danielle pre-radioactive.

I decided I would go around and try to get a picture with everyone that came out. I eventually failed that task but I did get almost everyone.

Jess and Garett came out! Garett decided he was going to really dress up haha. So fancy!

Pinching Marks nipple.

Rat scares me sometimes.

There were a lot of Melissa's there that night. Three to be exact. This is Melissa # 2.

Meet Quan.

Wendy and I!

My mom and I! Can't you tell? haha

I appeared out of nowhere behind poor Adam, his face says it all.

Andy! I kept forgetting that I'd already taken my "Andy and Marlee" picture, so I actually have about 4 now. But then again I also have tons with Quan and Melissa. So I only posted one of everyone.

The Chad.

We had more cut outs, this time my mom and Wendy brought their friends for a roadtrip! Tina on the left, Stacey in the middle, and Rupi on the right.

Pat even got some loving from men that night. Either that or Rat was just trying to lick the vodka off pats face. Poh-tae-toe, poh-tah-toe.

Uuuugh more shots. Why do I think these things are good ideas at the time?

Please note how my glass is already empty while everyone else was just getting started... this is probably why I was feeling so poopy later on.

My roommate Ashley!

We can't forget Melissa # 1!

Miss Sarah.

Melissa # 1's boyfriend - Mike.

Okay this, I don't even really know. A random costume party showed up and I decided I was going to surprise them and get a picture taken. I literally walked up between these two, said "look over there!" ... Made a stupid face while someone took the picture (Can't even remember who) ... he is actually saying "haha what the fuck?" ... and then I walked away.

Mom and Wendy - That's Wendy's sexy face.

My other crew! This would be the UFC watching crew.

Danielle and PatZ.

Nom Nom Nom.

Elise and Ryan came! But I didn't get pictures of Ryan (sorryyyy!) Thanks to A + D for ruining the picture hahahaha.

Hearts!

Post Puking face.

Skytrain Ride home. Mason and Mark with the girls!

Overall it was quite a successful night. I had SO much fun so thanks everyone who came out!

Yesterday morning I woke up to get ready for work and when I came into the living room I had flowers, a balloon, a card, and - wait for it - dill pickle chips with dill pickle dip waiting for me! My roommate is so sweet! It totally made my day. For those of you who don't know, my favourite snack in the world is dill pickle chips with dill pickle dip. By 8am I already had 30 happy birthday messages on facebook. My e-mail was spammed full of those, I had over 100 by the end of the day. I had lots of phonecalls from my family, my friends Amber and Kat called so that was awesome too. It was just an awesome day. There isn't anything that could have possibly made it better than it was!

PS got my drivers license renewed and fuck are they ugly now. If you haven't seen the new licenses check it out on google, the pictures are black and white now and just yugh. I miss my old license already!

Anyways, Thanks everyone for all of the birthday wishes, I do appreciate every single one of them!

I had a few favourite birthday wishes and they are as follows:

Marco Coyle can you hear it? your biological clock is ticking away. tick tick tick... times running out on you old timer.... haha happy birthday!

Danielle Ciavarro Happy Birfday!!! My gift to you is NOT giving your radioactive hugs! Hahaha!!!

Corey Gingrich Happy bday you poacher

Worst Salon Ever

Well... every year I do the same thing. Light in the summer, dark in the winter.

There's a reason outside of the fact that fall/winter just suits darker tones... and it's the fact that I have no tan and when I am too blonde with no tan it makes me look very washed out and sick.

My other reason for dying my hair is to mark change in my life. I like to look different when I feel different. It's one of those "out with the old, in with the new" things.

Today I decided I'd had enough of the blonde and insisted I get it dyed after work... so I did.

A girl I work with recommended that I go to the girl she goes to. She said she's reasonably priced and does a good job. I figured I might as well because I really didn't feel like spending 200+ dollars on my hair today which is what it would have been if I went with my faithful "never let you leave with shitty colour or cut" Axis Salon.

I figured since I will be changing my hair in the next 2 months anyways it won't matter if she screws up.

The colour itself is a nice colour, the highlight is done quite well, it's just not the colour I wanted. I had a completely different colour in mind. Unfortunately thanks to work not having colour printers I couldn't print off the picture I wanted. So instead I used the colour book and told her "I want this colour for my highlight, and this colour for my base" ... I pointed to a nice warm brown, it was more of a goldy reddish brown. The highlight I wanted was a caramel colour as opposed to a bleach blonde. I wanted the highlight to be close to the base colour so that it was a very subtle tone. But oh no, that's not what she had in mind.

I sit down in this womans chair and she proceeds to do her own thing. Thanks lady, waita do what I asked you to. I was immediately pissed off because normally I will let a stylist pick a colour for me, but today I had a specific colour in mind so I was irritated that the one time I wanted a specific colour, she goes and bails on me. Not only did I have a specific colour in mind but I asked her to dye my hair a specific way -- highlight it and whatevers not in foils dye the base colour... it's common sense woman! Then when you go to wash it out, instead of using a toner, mash it all together so it stains the lighter hair so that it's all nicely blended.

She had the two colours mixed up that I wanted so I didn't think much of it, but then she proceeded to do one foil in blonde where she would strictly touch up my roots, and then the next foil would be in the brown colour. This had me worried because I didn't want my hair being the same blonde it was, with brown low lights.

I finally had to just stop caring about what she was doing because I was pretty much ready to lose my shit. I'm sorry but normally I'm not picky, but I'm fucking paying you to do my hair so do it the way I want you to.

After she proceeded to do her own thing she put me in the dryer for 20 minutes and not once in that 20 minutes did anyone ask if I wanted a magazine to read or anything. Yes, I particularly love to stare at the same wall for 20 minutes while I have my head jammed in some noisy dryer. Good times.

After the highlights AND lowlights had set she took me to the sink to wash out the colour. Finally she informed me that she was going to be using a toner on me. This is something I usually get concerned with. I'm all for using toner, but it's an added cost (usually about 50 bucks) and this was the other reason for wanting to do my hair the way I told her to -- so I could skip this added expense.

"Fuck it." That's basically the point I was at.

She rinses out the toner yadda yadda, sits me down and takes the towel off and low and behold -- she decided she was going to use an ashy coloured toner. Awesome cause that's EXACTLY what I wanted. NOT.

Any hope in hell of MAYBE getting something close to the colour I wanted had completely gone out the window by this point. So I sat there while she blowdryed my hair for the next half an hour and let her do it. Normally I'd say "it's okay I'm just going home anyways" but oh no, this chick at the very least was going to spend an entire appointments worth of time just blow drying my hair.

Finally when I was fully able to see the end result I smiled and said it was nice, paid her and left. I had to come home and re-style it as usual and then actually put makeup on so I could get an idea of whether or not it really looks alright, and finally decided that yes, while it's not what I wanted it is still a nice colour.

Oh well. Like I said, it's not that the woman did a bad job at what she did, it looks great for what she did, it's just the fact that it's not what I wanted. Thankfully this will be the last time I have to pay someone this much money to have my hair dyed. School could not come faster at this point. Thankfully it wasn't too expensive or I definitely would have lost my shit.

Anyways, this is the end result:

Guns in Costumes

Well, open season is in full swing and I will be damned if I don't kill SOMETHING this year.

So to celebrate the fact that I would like to put my guns to use this season, next weekend Mark and I are going on a bit of a hunting escapade. Just a day trip but fun none-the-less. We'll probably end up completely skunked, but I don't even care. I just really want to get out and shoot something... preferably an animal but I'll settle for playing target practice even.

Strangely enough there are areas you can hunt that are relatively close to Vancouver. Basically around the Hope area or the Squamish area so tomorrow I'm going to head over to Italian Sporting Goods, grab myself a license and talk to a few of the guys there to get some info. See what sort of restrictions I'll be looking at so that I don't get myself into any trouble.

I'm sure we can all agree that the lower mainland is NOT a place where you can just freely go blast off your rifle anywhere you please. This isn't Fort so I had better pay close attention to the rules of it all.

I'm really just looking forward to the whole aspect of taking out my guns and having a good time. It's a pricey "sport" for sure, but in my opinion well worth it. What I mean by pricey is the amount of money you spend just to POTENTIALLY kill something. You have to factor in the cost of your hunting license, any tags that you buy... the limited entries are 5 bucks per entry then if you get one you have to buy the 25 dollar species tag on top of that. Then you factor in the cost of ammo and fuel. Before all of that you have to make sure you have at the very least your C.O.R.E. and typically your non-restricted license as well. That's usually a couple hundred bucks and you have to renew your PAL every 5 years now. Even just a cheap box of bullets or shells are around 30 bucks and lets just say they don't last long since you usually blast off a bunch of rounds just for shits and giggles.

It adds up very quickly, but it is so, so worth it.

This year will be a very low key hunting year, however I'm going to start preparing for next year already. That means for Christmas this year I will ask for camping/hunting supplies. IE a tent, a sleeping bag, etc etc.

I think it's time I accumulate some of these items so that I can pack up my shit and go if I feel like getting away for the weekend.

Ahh hunting season. It always brings on that sense of homesickness for me. Hot work days in the summer and hunting season... those are the two things that really make me feel the whole "I miss Fort St. James" thing. Hot work days because you can't just head down to the beach after you get off work here without it being 7 or 8 at night before you get down there, and hunting season for obvious reasons.

Vancouver has a lot to offer but you can't have your cake and eat it too.

I can't wait to go out next weekend.

Now I really need to start thinking of a halloween costume too. I have no idea what I'm doing this year, but it should be something good.

It's Birthday Month Bitches!

It was the fabulous Miss Melissa's birthday on Friday, (well the party was on friday but her real birthday was Saturday) and to celebrate the fact that she's getting older we all went out to drink.

This year was a blast. I met up with Alicia and Brandi at Adams place, and then from there we headed to Melissa's boyfriends place... and then from there we walked down to sharks club. It was so nice to see her again and she looked beautiful as always!!

Alicia and Brandi laughing about who even knows what. Probably creepy striped shirt guy.

Ugh this couple sat on the bar stools RIGHT at the bar the whole night -- and made out. Not just like, every now and again, I'm talking slobbery disgusting making out nearly the entire time! ... Clearly they wanted to be seen as there were MANY places they could have done this where less people would have noticed them. Sluts.

I don't remember these guys names... well actually that's a lie. I remember the one on the right (Brett) but I don't remember the other two. All I know is they were like "HEY, PICTURE?!" so I took their pictures. Odd. Especially the guy that's flashing his gum pack, clearly that's the new cool thing to do didn't you know?

This would be team 50/50. 50% of us are single, the other 50% are not. Or I guess you could say 50% are brown haired and 50% are blonde. Both work.

Me and the birthday girl!! I'm obsessed with her dress.

Isn't it the prettiest dress ever?

Quan and I!

It was a really great night. I wish I could have stayed longer but unfortunately I couldn't afford to feel like a bag of shit the next day as I had quite a few things to do. It ended up being a very good day as Dario and I finally talked. The awkwardness isn't there anymore which I really enjoy, and hopefully one of these days we'll be able to be friends again.

On a completely unrelated note... I have been blonde since March.

Let me just state, that this is the longest period of time that I have EVER gone staying ONE colour. Normally after about 4 months I change things up. I'm now at the 6 month mark and I'm definitely getting ready to change. Mainly because the fall season is approaching. (I say approaching because techincally fall is not until September 22nd.)

A month ago I really wanted to go red but I think I've decided against that now. For a number of reasons:

1) Red is really hard to get out of your hair and I know that come spring I'll be blonde again, so I must take the bleaching factor into account.

2) It probs won't look that great on me.

So there we have it. The verdict is in and I will not be going red. However, solid colours are very in right now so really, any solid colour is fashionable. Not even so much a "solid" colour, you can still have highlights, but definitely the whole streaky/chunky highlighted look is out. Now it's all about subtle tones and highlights. YAY! My favourite for sure.

I'm leaning more towards this sort of colour now:

Now the only hard part is the fact that I don't know whether to dye it this week before my birthday, or wait till after the weekend. Sigh.

I love the blonde and will eventually go back but I'm definitely in need of a change soon. Especially seeing as how I've only cut my hair like twice in the last 9 months too. That is record breaking for me. RECORD I SAY!

So yay or nay to doing this before the weekend? If it helps with the voting process... my birthday "party" is on Saturday, and my actual birthday is on Tuesday... so should I get it done before then so I can look totally different for the birthday business, or wait till afterwards so I can start my 22nd year of life on a completely different note? Hmmm... hard to decide.
